website
I have my own website.
A 'website' is a location you can visit on the internet that usually has information on a specific topic. Notice the following:
- We just finished the website for our new company.
- I have no idea how to make a website.
have a look
I'll give you my website address so you can have a look at
it.
To 'have a look' at something is to take time to view it and maybe form an opinion about the information. Notice the following:
- I want to have a look at the bicycle before I buy it.
- Do you want to have a look at my new car?
video diary
My website is like a video diary of our travels.
A 'diary' is a written place where you record your thoughts or experiences. A 'video diary' would be recording that information on a video clip. Notice the following:
- Have you watched his video diary?
- I update my video diary every night.
last name
My last name is Eagar.
Your last name is the name that comes from your family. In some countries people have one last name from their mother and one from their father. Notice the following:
- How do you spell your last name?
- Her last name is difficult to pronounce.
around the world
I have two brothers that I travel with around the world.
To travel 'around the world' is to go to many different places in different areas of the world. The actual phrase 'around the world' means a full circle around the Earth. Notice the following:
- We have been around the world a few times on business.
- He went around the world by boat when he was 20 years
old.
