get a permit

I'm going to get a permit, so I can get to drive.

A 'permit' is permission or a license to do something.  When we 'get a permit' we fill out the forms and maybe take a test to have permission to do something.  Notice the following:

  1. I have to get a permit to park my car in this parking lot.
  2. You need to get a permit from the city to build a house here.

looking forward

I'm really looking forward to getting a driver's license.

We 'look forward' to something that will happen in the future that we are excited about.  Notice the following:

  1. Are you looking forward to graduation?
  2. We are really looking forward to our vacation.

I hear you

I hear what you're saying.

When we use the phrase 'I hear you' like this to show someone that we understand and agree with what they are saying.  Notice the following:

  1. I hear you, but I don't think that she sees it that way.
  2. I hear you about being frustrated.

  2. I am taking driving school next week.

hang out

I'd like to see my friends and to hang out with them.
