AUDIO I think my favorite live action film of recent times, well probably of all time, would have to be like the Lord of the Rings Trilogy which has just come out. I don't know many people who haven't seen it so sorry if you don't know what I'm talking about, but these are three films taken from three books or one big book written by an Englishman called J.R. Tolken. He wrote them is sort of the middle of last century. I actually remember my dad saying that his father was reading the books to him and they actually read the first two books and they had to wait for the third one to come out. He actually wrote to Tolken and asked him to hurry up writing it so that he could read it to his children and in turn my dad, when me and my brother got to the right age to understand it, he read us the books, and I think still now, they're probably sort of regarded as some of the greatest books of all time, definitely the greatest fantasy book of all time. I mean, all the characters in it, all the sort of types of creatures in it have been a starting point to so many other stories, so many other games, computer games, board games. I mean the list just goes on and on, and it's something , the books are something that's very close to my heart, so I was slightly worried when they said they were going to make a film out of it, because they tried that before and it had been really bad, it had been sort of half cartoon, half live action, really, really dodgy, and so, I was just so worried that they were gonna do what Hollywood usually does, and take an amazing story and just mess around with it, change everything, but luckily they got hold of the Director, Peter Jackson, who was probably as into the books as I am, and he was very true to the story, I mean, obviously they've got to change some things to make it into a sort of good successful Hollywood hit, but he really, really kept the sort of soul of the story alive, and I mean, when I'm watching the film, there's so many, from reading the book, there's so many images in my head that are exactly the same as they are in the film, I mean he's brought out what I have in my head onto the screen, almost perfectly in some bits. Apart from a great story as well, as a lover of computer graphics, it has to be the number one film for that. The creation of the character Golum, which was totally computer generated, is just like, landmark in the sort of history computer generated graphics. He's so scarily alive that you wouldn't ever believe that he wasn't there in the first place. There was even talk of him getting an Oscar, although they said this wasn't possible cause obviously you can't give an Oscar to someone who isn't there, but still, as far as, just every sort of aspect of the film, I mean the acting, maybe not so much, but the storyline, the affects, the look, the directions, it's got to be on of the best films of all time. |
