curl up

On a rainy day, I curl up by the fire and read a really good book.

To 'curl up' means to sit or lie in a with our arms and legs close to our body.  We usually do this when we are cold. In this case, curl up doesn't necessarily mean to put your body into this specific positions, but mostly just means to make yourself comfortable and warm. Notice the following:

  1. I think I'll curl up on the sofa and watch a DVD.
  2. My cat likes to curl up in my bed and sleep.

sleep in

I just love to sleep in until about 11 or 12 o'clock.

The phrase 'sleep in' means to sleep later than you usually would.  Notice the following:

  1. I usually sleep in until noon on Sundays.
  2. My dad never sleeps in. He's always up at dawn.

depending on my mood

Sometimes I like to walk around in the rain, with or without umbrella, depending on my mood.

When our actions 'depend on our mood' it means that they connect to how we are feeling.  There are things that we prefer to do when we are happy or sad or tired. Notice the following:

  1. Depending on my mood, I usually listen to rock music.
  2. I'll either stay home or go to the party depending on my mood.

in the slightest

Rain doesn't bother me in the slightest.

We use the phrase 'doesn't bother me in the slightest' to talk about things that are not a problem for us or that we don't care about.  Notice the following:

  1. Snow doesn't bother me in the slightest.  I love it!
  2. Nicole is a great student.  Hard work doesn't bother her in the slightest.

as far as I'm concerned

That's no problem as far as I'm concerned.

The phrase 'as far as I'm concerned' is similar in meaning to 'in my opinion'.  Notice the following:

  1. As far as I'm concerned, Michael Jackson is the greatest pop star ever!
  2. In my opinion, Michael Jackson is the greatest pop star ever!
