What is a typical workday for me?

The word 'typical' is similar in meaning to 'usual'.  Notice the following:

  1. A typical day in London is cool, wet and cloudy.
  2. I'm a good student, but I hate homework.  I guess that's pretty typical.

complain

I basically listen to my girlfriend complain.

We 'complain' to other people when we are not happy about something.  Notice the following:

  1. The food was great, but I complained about the poor service.
  2. John is never happy.  He complains about everything.

pick up

On the way home, pick up my dinner.

The phrasal verb 'pick up' means to go and get someone or something.  Notice the following:

  1. Can you pick me up at the airport next Saturday?
  2. Let's pick up a newspaper and see if any good movies are showing.

domestic

It is basically a very domestic evening.

We use the word 'domestic' to talk about things relating to the home.  Notice the following:

  1. Domestic work includes cooking, cleaning and childcare.
  2. The police were called to investigate a domestic problem.

comes along

Sometimes my wife comes along with me.

To 'come along' means to go someplace together with one or more people.  Notice the following:

  1. We're going for coffee after class.  Do you want to come along?
  2. I asked Annie to come along, but she was busy.
