previously

Previously I said that it's overrated to some of my friends.

'Previously' means a time before now.  Notice the following:

  1. I previously worked in Korea before coming to Vietnam.
  2. Sorry, but the new Johnny Depp Movie is worse than anything he's previously done.

In terms of

In terms of cost, I prefer Leeds because it has good shopping.

We use the phrase 'in terms of' to make the topic very specific. Looking at the example, maybe Leeds has decent prices for shopping, but nightlife is really expensive. We use the phrase 'in terms of' to show that we are making a statement about cost and nothing more. Notice the following:

  1. In terms of housing, Japan is an expensive place to live.
  2. In terms of loyalty, dogs are better than cats.

rude

It's too expensive and people are too rude.

'Rude' means not polite.  Notice the following:

  1. I thought our waiter was really rude.
  2. What is rude in one culture can be OK in another.

nightlife

They have a big football stadium and the nightlife is great.

'Nightlife' means fun activities we do in the evening such as dancing, movies and karaoke.  Notice the following:

  1. The nightlife in Tokyo is amazing!
  2. I'm going to take a vacation on a small, quiet island with zero nightlife.

lovely

It's got lovely mountains everywhere.

'Lovely' means beautiful, nice or attractive.  Notice the following:

  1. Your grandmother is a lovely woman.
  2. Paris is full of lovely little cafés.
