harsh

The winters are cold and harsh.

We use the word harsh to talk about things or people that are strongly negative.  Notice the following:

  1. The harsh, stormy weather closed the airport.
  2. Those are harsh words!

refreshed

It makes me feel refreshed.

When we feel refreshed, we are not hot or tired.  We are cool, active and energetic.  Notice the following:

  1. A cool drink will refresh you.
  2. He felt refreshed after a swim in the pool.

an awful lot

I get bitten an awful lot.

We use the phrase 'awful lot' to talk about a large number or quantity of something negative. Notice the following:

  1. He's late for class an awful lot.
  2. I have an awful lot of homework.

fall foliage

You have the fall foliage.

Foliage describes the the leaves of plants or trees.  Fall is the season before winter when the weather becomes cooler and leaves change color from green to yellow, to orange, then brown.  Notice the following:

  1. Tourists come to see the the colorful fall foliage.
  2. The fall foliage is lovely, isn't it?

get to

I get to wear comfortable clothes.

We 'get to' do something we like.  Notice the following:

  1. I get to take a vacation next month.
  2. I have to do homework , but I get to watch TV after.
