Coffee by Dean Krippaehne

My eyes are open,
but I'm not awake,
my feet keep dragging'
my entire body aches
I make my way to the kitchen
find my favorite cup
fill it to the brim
and I drink it all up
it's all right, it's OK
I've done my first cup of coffee every day
I'm brewing a fresh pot
it's just been ground
it's percolating
and I love that sound
add a little sugar
little bit of cream
to my mornings best friend
if you know what I mean
throw some in a thermos
I'm on my way
I've done my first cup of coffee every day
it's not that Mountain Dew can't do it
I know it's just a shot of caffeine
but then nothing can compare
to the aroma in the air
that comes with those Columbian coffee beans

it's not that Mountain Dew can't do it
I know it's just a shot of caffeine
but then nothing can compare
to the aroma in the air
that comes with those Columbian coffee beans
you've got your Starbucks and Foldgers, too
so many flavors from which to choose
you've got you drop blue espresso
if you're running late
you can buy it by the pound
and it still tastes great
maybe it's a mocha
or a low fat latte
try a cappuccino
at your local cafe
It's like baseball, apple pie
the American way
it's that first cup of coffee every day
it's that first cup of coffee every day
it's that first cup of coffee every day
