Do you do anything to stay in shape?

When you 'stay in shape' it means that you do things to help you to stay fit and healthy.

Notice the following:

  1. I work out every day to try and stay in shape.
  2. You have to make sure that you eat the right kind of foods in order to stay in shape.

a hard time

I have a hard time running early in the morning.

When you have 'a hard time' doing something, it means that you do not find it easy.

Notice the following:

  1. I have a hard time not having salt on my food.
  2. She has a hard time keeping up with all of her studies.

really light

I think it's easy in the summer because it's really light and the weather's better.

Here, 'really light' means that there is a lot of natural daylight or sunlight.

Notice the following:

  1. The nights are really light for longer in the summer.
  2. I like my front room as the sun floods in and it is really light.

in the same boat

I'm in the same boat.

When you are 'in the same boat' as someone, it means that you are both experiencing the same things or are in the same emotional position.

Notice the following:

  1. I am in the same boat as many other single mums.
  2. I think you and I are in the same boat.


I'm semi vegetarian so I don't eat meat.

When you are 'semi-vegetarian,' it means that you will not eat meat, but you will eat some animals products like eggs.

Notice the following:

  1. I have a semi-vegetarian diet.
  2. As I am a semi-vegetarian, I get most of my protein from eggs and pulses.
